American Media Society, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to produce and distribute educational, news and documentary media productions, to provide instruction and training in media arts and practices, and to exhibit media works of artistic, historic or cultural significance.
Productions
The American Media Society does not itself commercially distribute productions (except for a limited number of copies sold for fundraising purposes) or manufacture copies of productions for commercial distribution. However, as a fundamental part of its mission, the organization provides prescribed numbers of the supported productions or other media projects to libraries, educational institutions and non-profit organizations in the United States at no cost to the library/school/organization receiving the materials.
Production activities will take place in the State of California and the United States of America as a whole, and will be held at both the office of the organization and at whatever locations are necessary for the production, completion and distribution of supported media projects. These can include rented studio spaces, post-production facilities and other locations where crews must travel for the production of supported projects.
Education
American Media Society will also offer classes and workshops designed to address educational deficiencies that prevent young adults from securing work in the competitive field of arts and entertainment and to help them transition from the academic arena to the professional world.
Workshops and classes will, depending upon the date and the participants, be held where space is available, at locations that will include schools, universities, community centers, churches and offices.
Exhibits
Lastly, the American Media Society will also host a recurring film festival that will showcase a continuing series of classic and contemporary films of artistic, historic and cultural significance. These will include independent films, foreign language films, documentaries, short and experimental films, student projects and repertory screenings.
Film festival screenings shall be held in major metropolitan areas throughout the State of California and the United States of America, with venues to be determined by capacity, projection capabilities and dates of availability.
Funding
In order to accomplish this, and under the terms of mutually beneficial agreements, predetermined percentages of receipts from commercial sales and distribution of projects facilitated by the American Media Society will be channeled from the producers and distributors to the organization to facilitate future projects.
The American Media Society solicits the financial support of corporations, businesses, philanthropic entities, and individuals through the efforts of its Board of Directors, and in conjunction with those production and distribution companies with which the corporation has established relationships. Efforts include direct solicitation and grant application.
We will accept contributions of real property, closely held securities, intellectual property such as patents, copyrights and trademarks, licenses and royalties, collectibles and automobiles, boats, planes or other vehicles, under the condition that said contributions further the purposes of the corporation.
We will not accept donations if any conditions imposed by the donor on the contribution limit the corporation’s ability to achieve its purposes or force this corporation to conduct activities that are not in furtherance of 501(c)(3) purposes. We will ensure that donations are accepted in accordance with 501(c)(3) regulations and we will properly determine fair market value according to IRS Publication 561. trivi
